Jefferson Davis Parish
Distance Learning Opportunities
In response to Governor Edwards’ proclamation of school closures for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year and his desire that learning opportunities continue to be provided to students in the state of Louisiana, we will focus on the essential standards of learning for student success with a primary focus in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Discovery and enriching opportunities in other content areas are being provided to complement ELA and Math and to challenge students to seek new and engaging learning opportunities.
ELA and Math learning resources will be made available to all students and parents electronically (requires access to Internet using a technological device, such as smartphones, tablets, iPads, laptop or desktop computers, or Chromebooks) and in traditional print format (to be picked up from or dropped off to individual school sites throughout Jefferson Davis Parish).
These learning opportunities are being made available to all students/parents in Jefferson Davis Parish; however, it is ultimately a parent’s/guardian’s decision to participate in such opportunities. We encourage all students/parents to take advantage of these learning opportunities. We realize that there may be times when students/parents will need assistance with ELA or Math activities. In such cases, parents are encouraged to email your child’s/children’s teachers to receive academic assistance. All campus websites have a teacher/staff directory that allows parents to “Send a Message” to a teacher’s email. School websites can be accessed by going to www.jeffersondavis.org and clicking on the Campus icon near the top of the web page. Teachers will be available to answer emails during normal school hours (8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.). Teachers will respond to emails in a timely manner.
Teachers will also be reaching out to families by phone, mail, or email through May 21, 2020. Some teachers may utilize approved applications such as Class Dojo, Remind, or Band App to reach out to families.
Please visit the link below to access electronic learning opportunities/resources:
Printed Resources: Pick-up/Drop-off dates will be Monday, April 27, 2020, and Monday, May 11, 2020. Please look for direction to pick-up/drop-off print resources from your child’s individual school.
****IMPORTANT NOTICE: Distance Learning Opportunities are not mandatory. No “Distance Learning” ELA or Math opportunities will be graded for any type of evaluative measure. As no classroom instruction is able to be held at this time in traditional classroom settings due to social distancing guidelines, parents may submit student work electronically (via email to a child’s/children’s teacher) or at designated drop-off locations to receive teacher feedback on partially completed or completed ELA or Math activities. All students in Jefferson Davis Parish may receive or utilize accommodations such as extended time, assignments read aloud, peer tutoring or adult assistance, recorded answers, multiple attempts, calculator usage, individual or small-group assistance, etc.
Special Education Teachers will be contacting parents to give parents their child's/children’s iREADY Username and Password and/or iREADY Workbooks for ELA and/or Math.
All students have access to KAMI (www.kamiapp.com) using their Google login. KAMI allows students to use annotation tools to highlight, underline, or strike through text, to have texts read aloud to them, and to insert text boxes using voice/speech recognition (with an external or built-in device microphone) for recorded answers. Phones, tablets, iPads, newer laptops, and Chromebooks have built-in microphones.
