Jefferson Davis Parish School Closure Updates
March 16, 2020
During this time of mandated school closures, Jefferson Davis Parish School Board will not advocate or mandate “Tele-Learning” or “Online Learning” services. As we have an obligation to provide equitable educational services for all students, this would require all households to have adequate high-speed Internet services and updated technological devices (computers, laptops, chromebooks, tablets, etc.). We are aware that many of our households in Jefferson Davis Parish do not have access to adequate high-speed Internet services or updated technological devices to provide equitable services; thus, we will not require or provide “Tele-Learning” or “Online Learning” services during this time.
We will post Digital Learning Resource links for parents/guardians who wish to access and provide optional daily or weekly educational opportunities to their children during this mandated school closure. The link to the Digital Learning Resource website will be posted later today (3-16-2020) or early tomorrow morning (3-17-2020) on www.jeffersondavis.org as well as District and School Facebook pages.
Other Important Updates:
All Jeff Davis Parish school board full-time and full-time/part-time employees will be paid on a regular basis at regularly scheduled payroll times. Direct-deposit services will be provided as usual, and checks for employees not enrolled in direct-deposit services will receive checks by mail.
All employees who return to work whether voluntarily or at request to fulfill a critical task will clock in and maintain accurate accounting of time worked.
Report Cards and applicable progress reports for the 3rd Nine Weeks will be mailed to all students later this week or early next week.
In regards to LHSAA athletics, no employee or CCIP coach will lead a mandatory or voluntary practice, workout, or game during the time of mandated school closures. If the remaining athletic seasons are resumed, and an athlete has engaged in AAU or select team competition, he or she could be deemed ineligible upon return to the LHSAA season.
All co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that were scheduled have been cancelled during the time of mandated school closures.
Parents of students who take medication at school are encouraged to contact the school in the next few days to schedule a medication check-out, if needed.
There are currently no Spring LEAP testing updates or decisions from the state regarding testing. Updates will be posted as they occur.
The Jeff Davis Parish Honor Banquet is tentatively set for Monday, May 5, 2020, although there are concerns about the district’s ability to conduct one in the compacted time frame. Updates will be provided should changes occur.
All Jeff Davis Parish graduation dates are set to remain the same at this time. Any changes to this will be posted should changes occur.
Jeff Davis Parish School Board will not provide transportation or feeding services during the mandated school closure time period.
Dual-enrollment classes through McNeese State University will follow university policies during the time of this mandated school closure. Please check with McNeese State University should you have any questions.
