Band
| What a
Season! |
| We have
certainly been busy in the Music Departments of Welsh High
School and Welsh-Roanoke Jr. High School.
I must first
begin by thanking all who have supported the music programs.
This support has come in many forms such as the tremendous boost
from the Greyhound Backers of $500, the continued monetary
support of the Welsh Rotary Club, and the monetary support from
the parents.
Also, I do
not think I could even imagine a ball game without the Malletts
and the Troutmans. You guys help me keep my sanity.
The
Welsh and Welsh-Roanoke Music Departments are very fortunate to
have this support, for there are many music programs not so
fortunate.
And, of
course, a major thank you to Mr. Deshotel, Mr. Hall, Mr.
Lasserre, and Mrs. Bard for their support of the music program.

| Band Booster
Program |
| There has
been an interest in getting a band booster support base started.
I must be very frank with you, this makes me nervous, but it
also would make the music programs at both schools prosper, and
all decisions must defer back to me so I can get approval from
school administration. I have personally been involved
with parents who have said, "What can we do?" and band parents
who have said, "We are the band parents; we can do whatever we
want!" I will not allow the music programs to be
jeopardized by ugly words or actions.
With all of my
fears, I have a current band parent who offered me wonderful
words of encouragement. He said, "But we aren't your other
parents, and we want this band program to be successful."
Thank you for those words, because honestly, with a focused band
parent organization, our band programs can prosper. I will
be speaking to administration for guidelines about this matter.
